YouTube Help! my video is upside down!
When YouTube launched the video upload feature for iOS, google developers were baffled to see the 5%-10% videos uploaded by users were upside-down. Were such large percentage of users be shooting theory videos incorrectly?
“Incorrectly” was the keyword. The problem was engineers had not considered the fact that phones are usually rotated 180 degrees when held in user’s left had. Google had inadvertently designed the app that worked best almost exclusively for right-handed developer team.
We often assume that unconscious biases is related only to race, age or gender, however diversity is a broad spectrum, and despite our best effort our unconscious mind can not only undermine our workplaces but also our businesses. The first step to combat these bias is to identify them, understand their impact.
